about

The Tamar Ministry (often referred to as Tamar Center or simply Tamar) is a faith-rooted, survivor-led, and Christian-based organization focused on providing long-term restoration and vocational training to women in India who have been trafficked, abused, or exploited

While many, or potentially all, of the specific activities described in search results (such as bar outreach, hairdressing salons, and, "House of Peace" centers) are located in Pattaya, Thailand, the Tamar Ministry was birthed in Mumbai, India in 2007 by partners such as Woodmont Hills Church, alongside P.D. Prasada Rao, to specifically address the plight of young girls in India's red-light districts.

Key Aspects of the Tamar Ministry:

  • Mission & Focus: The ministry works in the heart of red-light districts (initially in Mumbai, with broader operations now associated with SE Asia) to offer women in prostitution a way out, offering a safe environment for healing, counseling, and discipleship.

  • Survivor-Led Approach: Tamar is led by survivors of trafficking who provide mentorship and support, focusing on holistic restoration—spirit, soul, and body.

  • Reintegration Activities: The ministry provides vocational training to help women build new, sustainable livelihoods. These skills include handicrafts (card making, jewelry, sewing), hairdressing, cooking, and bakery management.

  • Outreach & Prevention: Staff conduct outreach directly into red-light districts or bars, offering a "House of Peace" for rest and relationship building. They also work on prevention by connecting with vulnerable populations in source regions.

  • Support for Children: The ministry provides care and support for the children of the women it helps.
